Government operations in Alabel have been halted following a significant earthquake that hit the Philippines earlier today. The seismic event, with an initial magnitude of 8.2, struck Davao City just before 7:40 am local time on June 8, 2026. However, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre later revised the magnitude to 7.8.

As a precaution, a tsunami warning has been issued for various countries, including the Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, Palau, Yap, Taiwan, Papua New Guinea, and the western U.S. coast. While New Zealand and Australia initially expressed concerns about potential tsunamis, they have since confirmed that there is no imminent threat.

In response to the earthquake, the Local Government Unit of Alabel has suspended all classes and government office operations until further notice. Residents are advised to prioritize safety by staying in open areas away from buildings and monitoring official updates from the LGU channels. For emergency assistance, individuals can contact the Alabel Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office at 0970-025-7156.

President Bongbong Marcos has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident. Stay informed with the latest developments by following our live blog for updates.
