The father of a murdered woman is tormented by the realization that he unwittingly permitted her killer to be in close proximity to her body during her wake, deceived by the killer’s facade of goodness.

Prior to Christmas 2022, Natalie McNally, a pregnant woman 15 weeks into her pregnancy, was tragically murdered by her partner, Stephen McCullagh, at their residence. McCullagh feigned sorrow, reporting to emergency services that Natalie had been severely assaulted. However, his deceit was soon exposed.

During the court proceedings, prosecutor Charles MacCreanor KC described McCullagh’s actions as a meticulously planned and premeditated murder that he had hoped to escape accountability for.

McCullagh, a popular YouTuber with 40,000 followers, orchestrated a false live stream titled ‘Violent Night’ while he carried out the heinous act of killing Natalie. Despite pleading not guilty, McCullagh was convicted of murder and has been sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 31 years.

Following Natalie’s death, her family extended compassion and support to McCullagh, unaware of his true nature. They even allowed him to spend time alone with Natalie’s body during a wake at their home in Co Armagh, Northern Ireland.

Despite McCullagh’s manipulative behavior, the truth eventually emerged, revealing to the McNally family the heartbreaking reality of the man they had empathized with. Natalie’s parents expressed profound gratitude for the support received but emphasized that they continue to endure immeasurable pain since the loss of their daughter.

In light of McCullagh’s placement in the hospital wing at Maghaberry Prison for protection, legal experts believe that his actions have made him a target among fellow inmates, underscoring the severity of his crime.

As the justice system seeks to address the prevalence of domestic violence, McCullagh’s calculated murder serves as a stark reminder of the gravity of such offenses. The McNally family, while appreciative of the legal proceedings, remains devastated by the irreplaceable loss of Natalie and calls for increased efforts to combat violence against women and girls.
