A daring couple engaged in what is being dubbed as the “ultimate dine and dash” after indulging in Baby Guinness shots and steaks at The Halfway House in Brentwood, Essex, before fleeing without settling their £231.30 bill. The restaurant’s general manager, Deanne Perkins, revealed that the pair requested to switch to a table near the establishment’s rear exit, leading her to suspect a premeditated plan. They ordered various starters, two steaks, 14 shots of Baby Guinness, and ice cream sides, consuming the fare swiftly before making their escape. Surveillance footage captured the woman exiting through the front door while seemingly on a call, followed by the man leaving through the rear exit. Subsequently, they were seen running across the car park. Upon reviewing the CCTV footage, staff discovered the unpaid bill and reported the incident to the authorities. Deanne shared the video online as a caution to other businesses, which eventually led the woman to return and contribute £90 towards the outstanding amount. The man, however, remains uncontacted. Deanne described the couple as seemingly ordinary, mentioning their request for a secluded table and their friendly demeanor. She emphasized the unexpected nature of their actions, noting the woman’s nonchalant exit and the man’s strategic departure. While the female culprit claimed ignorance about the unpaid bill, Deanne expressed the disappointment of such incidents and appreciated the public support following the online sharing of the footage. Essex Police have been reached out to for further comments on the matter.
