A 26-year-old woman, Bruna Damaris Sant’Anna da Silva, was left disoriented and in need of water after drifting at sea for almost two days due to a strong ocean current. She went missing on May 24 while on a jet ski with Dheorge Bernardino in Ilhabela, a group of islands near Sao Paolo, Brazil. The local emergency services launched an extensive search but only managed to locate Ms. da Silva after she was miraculously found by two fishermen who described her as thirsty and weathered by the sea.
The fishermen, Alex Quintino and Allan de Oliveira Quintino dos Santos, narrated the moment they rescued the young woman, a nursing student from São Sebastião, who had been missing for three days. They were approached by da Silva while out at sea with their dog Adelaide, and upon spotting their boat, she frantically signaled for help. They immediately pulled her out of the water where she appeared confused and cold, requesting water.
Alex recounted how they provided her with water and wrapped her in a blanket as her hands and feet were wrinkled from being submerged for an extended period. The fishermen, who had set out for a fishing trip, had a hunch they might find the missing woman and were relieved to have played a role in her rescue.
The fishermen explained that the strong current had carried her far from the coast, making it challenging for authorities to locate her. They emphasized that if they hadn’t found her, it would have been unlikely for anyone else to discover her at that location. Ms. da Silva was rushed to an intensive care unit at a local hospital but has since been discharged due to her improved condition. The fishermen, despite sacrificing part of their fishing trip to help her, expressed no regrets, emphasizing the importance of saving a life.
Ms. da Silva’s partner, Beatriz Luz, shared that the woman disappeared during a trip to a social gathering on a speedboat and had little experience riding a jet ski, which led to the unfortunate incident with Mr. Bernardino, who remains missing after their capsizing.
