A portion of cake from the wedding of Prince William and Princess Kate is now available for purchase. This slice of fruit cake, aged 15 years, measures three by two inches and is enclosed in paper within a tin marked ‘William and Catherine, April 29, 2011′.
The piece of cake was safeguarded by Kate’s friend Juli Kavanagh, along with other wedding memorabilia and two heartfelt cards from the future queen. One of the cards, inscribed in 2017, was written by Kate on behalf of her eldest son, Prince George, who was just four years old at the time.
The card expressed gratitude to Judi for a generous gift of a large T-Rex toy that George adored, stating that the toy now stands sentinel outside his bedroom. Signed by the young Prince, the card reads, “Thank you so much for my very cool birthday present. I love the huge T-Rex and I keep it outside my bedroom to stand guard…with love, George x.”
These unique royal artifacts are set to be auctioned at Forum Auctions in London on May 28. Rupert Powell, a specialist at Forum Auctions, emphasized the significance of items related to the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, capturing a pivotal moment in modern royal history that resonates with nostalgia for many.
The elaborate wedding cake for William and Kate, designed by Fiona Cairns, stood at 3 feet tall, featuring eight tiers of fruit cake adorned with sugar paste flowers, weighing an impressive 220 pounds.
Fiona Cairns revealed that the cake for William and Kate’s wedding departed from tradition under Kate’s specific guidance for a classical, imaginative, and stylish theme. Cairns expressed the stress of the task, highlighting the secrecy maintained by her team throughout the project.
The enduring legacy of the cake extended beyond the 2011 reception, with portions of it served seven years later at Prince Louis’ christening.
