Police are in search of a missing teenager, Taylor Charlton, whose shoes were discovered on a river bank in Barnstaple. The 14-year-old was last seen on May 8, prompting extensive search efforts in the area. Authorities now believe Taylor may have entered the River Taw.
The focus of the searches has been on the River Taw following the recovery of Taylor’s shoes between Sticklepath and Bickington. Local volunteers and search teams, along with drones, search dogs, and the police helicopter, have been actively involved in the search operation.
Specialized resources, including a sonar-equipped boat and divers, were deployed by Devon and Cornwall Police to comb through the waterway. Despite these efforts, Taylor remains missing, with investigators considering the possibility that he may have entered the water.
Sector Inspector Andy Wills expressed empathy for Taylor’s family and community, emphasizing ongoing support and updates for them. The challenging search environment of the River Taw and its estuary, compounded by tidal conditions, has led to a methodical search aided by partner agencies.
Insp. Wills highlighted the discovery of Taylor’s shoes and the ongoing investigative efforts to determine how they ended up in the water. Taylor was last seen on CCTV heading towards the river from a Tesco Extra car park on the night of his disappearance, followed by a report of him missing the next day.
Detectives are actively pursuing leads and reviewing information to provide answers and closure for Taylor’s loved ones. The community’s support has been acknowledged, with a plea for anyone with information, regardless of its significance, to come forward and assist in the investigation.
