Earl Spencer, the brother of Princess Diana and uncle to Princes William and Harry, recently exchanged vows for the fourth time in a private ceremony held in the United States. His new spouse is archaeologist Professor Cat Jarman, whom he met while reviewing her 2021 bestseller “River Kings.” The romance blossomed during a joint project at Earl Spencer’s Althorp estate in Northamptonshire, where Professor Jarman was conducting research on a lost medieval village. The couple officially began dating two years ago.
In a joint statement, the couple expressed their gratitude for the evolution of their relationship from colleagues to friends and then to a deep connection filled with laughter and shared passions. They shared photos from their special day at Sedona’s Cathedral Rock, with the bride stunning in a pale blue sleeveless gown featuring a cut-out waist. Professor Jarman, now known as Countess Spencer, is 44 years old, and Earl Spencer has been married three times previously with a total of seven children.
Earl Spencer’s first marriage was to Victoria Lockwood in 1989, with whom he shares four children. Following their divorce in 1997, he wed Caroline Hutton in 2021, leading to the birth of two children. His third marriage to Karen in 2011 resulted in a daughter, Charlotte Diana, before their separation in 2024. Professor Jarman, who was also previously married, has two sons from her past relationship.
The marriage news surfaced shortly after Professor Jarman settled a legal dispute with Earl Spencer’s ex-wife, Karen, involving the unauthorized disclosure of her multiple sclerosis diagnosis. The settlement, reached in August the previous year, was resolved without any admission of guilt. Addressing the matter, Professor Jarman emphasized the importance of privacy regarding health issues like multiple sclerosis and expressed relief at being able to move forward positively.
Legal representatives for Professor Jarman highlighted the limited disclosure of her medical condition to only a trusted few before the breach occurred. Earl Spencer commended Professor Jarman for handling the situation with dignity and emphasized the need for individuals to have control over their health information.
