Royal Horse Artillery member dies in Windsor Horse Show tragedy

A member of the Royal Horse Artillery passed away after a horse-riding accident at the Royal Windsor Horse Show, as confirmed by Thames Valley Police. Authorities are seeking information regarding the incident, which is currently classified as a non-suspicious but unexplained death. Notably, King Charles was present at the event both yesterday and today.

The soldier fell off the horse around 7 pm after leaving the arena post-performance, and despite immediate medical attention, unfortunately, the soldier did not survive. The Royal Windsor Horse Show will proceed as scheduled, but The King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery display has been canceled. The event spans five days.

Chief Superintendent Michael Loebenberg appealed for any details related to the tragic incident and expressed condolences to the soldier’s family and the military community. No suspicious circumstances have been identified so far, with collaborative efforts ongoing with the Ministry of Defence, the Defence Accident Investigation Branch, and event organizers to ascertain the cause of the accident.

HPower Event Director, Jo Peck, extended sympathies to the soldier’s family and confirmed the continuation of the Royal Windsor Horse Show following the planned timetable, excluding The King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery display. Buckingham Palace spokesperson conveyed that The King was deeply saddened by the soldier’s death and will offer personal condolences to the family.

Individuals with information regarding the incident are encouraged to contact 101, submit a report on the Thames Valley Police website, approach a police officer at the horse show, or visit a police station, citing reference number 521 of the current day.
