The family of a British couple currently detained in Iran’s Evin Prison is expressing deep concern as all communication has been abruptly cut off. Lindsay and Craig Foreman, residents of East Sussex, are facing spying charges, which they adamantly deny, since their arrest in January 2025. Their children are distressed as they have had no contact with their parents and fear they may have been placed in solitary confinement as a punitive measure for speaking to the media.

The couple’s living conditions inside the prison are reportedly dire. Craig, a carpenter, is suffering from an untreated dental abscess and is housed with other foreign nationals, while Lindsay, a psychologist, is isolated in a cell where no one else speaks English. The Foremans had previously resorted to a hunger strike to highlight their innocence when their ability to communicate was restricted.

Lindsay’s son, Joe, who has dedicated himself to campaigning for his parents’ release, expressed his anguish over the lack of information about their well-being. The family alleges that a phone call with the British Ambassador to Iran left Lindsay feeling abandoned by her home country. Despite public acknowledgments of their innocence, the family questions the government’s efforts to bring them back home.

In a recent interview with the BBC, Craig revealed chilling details of life inside Evin Prison, including claims of executions within the facility. The family suspects that the couple may have been placed in solitary confinement following the interview. The emotional toll on the Foreman family is evident, with Lindsay breaking down during a call while Craig reassured her of their strength and hope for a swift resolution.

Lindsay and Craig have children from previous relationships who are deeply concerned about their parents’ well-being. The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has been actively engaged since the couple’s arrest, with consular assistance provided, including visits by the British Ambassador and facilitation of communication with their family.

Efforts to secure the safe return of Craig and Lindsay to the UK are ongoing, with the UK government reaffirming their commitment to addressing the unjust imprisonment of the couple. The Foreman family continues to advocate for their release, hoping for a resolution to reunite them soon.
