Passengers on a Japanese train experienced difficulty breathing after a chemical was sprayed, resulting in the hospitalization of 10 individuals. The incident occurred on the Tokaido Line section of the Ueno-Tokyo Line, as reported by local media on May 10.
The train, traveling from Odawara Station in Kanagawa Prefecture to Takasaki Station in Gunma Prefecture, was halted at Kawasaki Station after passengers raised concerns about the substance sprayed inside the train compartments around 4.35pm. Passengers began feeling unwell, coughing, and having breathing difficulties, prompting authorities to be alerted at approximately 4.30pm.
Upon arrival at JR Kawasaki Station, over 20 ambulances and emergency vehicles responded to the scene. Subsequently, train services between Yokohama and Shinagawa stations on the Tokaido Line were temporarily suspended. The exact nature of the sprayed substance and the severity of injuries are yet to be officially confirmed by authorities.
JR East, the largest of the seven Japan Railways Group companies, resumed train operations on the Yokosuka Line tracks following the incident.
