Labour MP Catherine West issued a challenge to a Cabinet member during a live TV appearance, daring Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson to take action against the Prime Minister. West warned Cabinet members that if they do not remove Keir Starmer, she will step in. She emphasized the need for senior women to step up and navigate the party through challenging times leading up to the next general election.

During a BBC interview, West questioned why women were not taking more prominent roles in leadership challenges. She stressed the importance of modernizing the party and criticized Labour for appearing outdated. However, West mentioned that she would wait to hear Starmer’s crucial speech on Monday before making any decisions.

Phillipson, responding to West, expressed disagreement with the approach, stating her support for Starmer to continue leading the party. She acknowledged the disappointment and pain felt within the party after recent electoral setbacks but emphasized the need to focus on delivering a brighter future for the country.

The spotlight is now on potential leadership contenders such as Wes Streeting and Angela Rayner to see if they will make any moves following West’s intervention. West expressed surprise that other leadership rivals had not taken action yet, signaling a potential shift in the party’s dynamics.
