An annoyed resident in Golborne, Wigan, raised concerns about a sudden appearance of a caravan behind his house that remained there indefinitely. Colin Taylor, a retired police officer, discovered the trailer upon returning from a holiday in September 2024. Upon speaking to the occupant, Colin learned that the man, who recently became homeless due to a breakup with his wife, intended to stay for a few weeks.

Since then, Colin reported the caravan as a persistent issue to Wigan Council and Greater Manchester Police multiple times. He expressed worries over suspicious individuals frequenting the area, raising concerns about possible illicit activities happening near the caravan.

The caravan has been unoccupied since May 2026, but the responsibility for its removal falls on the owner of the private land, Beryl Crellin, an 81-year-old resident of Brook Street. Beryl, also known as Carol in the neighborhood, adamantly refuses to pay for the removal, asserting that it is not her caravan and insisting that the council should handle it.

Expressing frustration with the situation, Beryl emphasized that she does not want to be involved in the matter, emphasizing that placing the caravan without her consent was the most frustrating part. Colin, on the other hand, highlighted the dilemma he faces, as taking matters into his own hands could lead to legal repercussions for fly-tipping.

As the situation unfolds, Wigan Council and Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for their input.
