Police in Greater Manchester have apprehended two individuals following an acid attack near a McDonald’s establishment, leading to a temporary lockdown of the area. The incident occurred outside the fast-food outlet in Ashton town center today, Friday, May 8, around 4 pm.
Authorities from Greater Manchester Police disclosed that the two suspects were taken into custody on suspicion of assault after the incident was classified as a ‘hazmat incident’. Reports indicate that the alleged assault involved the use of a corrosive substance.
A man in his 30s was swiftly transported to the hospital for treatment, as reported by the Manchester Evening News. Emergency services responded to the scene at a business premises on Warrington Road, Ashton-Under-Lyne, following the hazmat incident report.
The hospitalized man in his 30s is currently receiving medical care for non-life-threatening injuries. The suspects, aged in their 40s and 50s, remain in police custody on suspicion of assault.
Authorities have assured the public of no imminent danger, and a secure perimeter has been established around the area. In addition, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue confirmed that two fire crews were dispatched to assist at the scene.
