A woman claims to have been scratched by a “demonic presence” of a child known as Sallie while investigating a notorious ‘haunted’ residence. Brocarde, aged 42, made the decision to spend a night at the ‘Sallie House’ in Atchison, Kansas.
This 19th-century dwelling is reputed to be haunted, with numerous individuals reporting encounters with paranormal phenomena and apparitions. According to local legend, a physician conducted a surgery on a young girl named Sallie at the location in the early 1900s, but the girl did not survive.
Brocarde, hailing from Oxfordshire, described feeling shaken and confined to bed for days following her stay at the house. She remarked, “The entire atmosphere in the house is incredibly eerie. Upon arrival, it immediately saps all your energy.”
She added, “The interior is mostly bare except for an array of toys and dolls. The decor appears frozen in time, reminiscent of a house that your great-grandmother might have needed to redecorate. There’s also a strange scent, a blend of decaying flesh and strong chemicals.”
“The most unsettling room is the nursery – I stumbled upon a circle of dolls engaged in a seance. As I stood at the center of the circle, I felt a heaviness in my legs, as if they were being pulled into the ground.”
“My limbs began to ache, a peculiar sensation coursed through me, and I felt an urge to flee. This was during the day, and I still had the entire night ahead of me. Strange occurrences persisted, but it wasn’t until around 3 am that I encountered something that forced me to leave.”
After spending hours in the house, Brocarde alleged that something seized her leg in the basement, and she sensed an “otherworldly” presence. She recounted, “It was evident that sleep was out of the question, so around 3 am, I decided to return to the nursery and confront whatever was there.”
“I attempted to communicate with ‘Sallie.’ I picked up a pink crayon, only to have it break in my hand. Thinking pink might not be suitable, I switched to a black crayon and inquired about her message.”
“The response was ‘Go home,’ followed by the black crayon snapping in two. At that moment, something grabbed me from behind, and I felt a sharp pain in my arm. I rolled up my sleeve to reveal five scratch marks, resembling tally marks, on my arm.”
“Feeling nauseous, feverish, and disoriented, I witnessed the apparition of a young girl. I was seated on the floor but instinctively rose and trailed her into the front bedroom. As I reached the landing, I sensed something rush past me and down the stairs.”
“Upon investigating, I found a toy dog positioned at the foot of the stairs near the front entrance. If the little girl was in the front bedroom, who was in the nursery throwing objects?”
“I hurried down the stairs and decided it was time to vacate the premises, albeit after a brief detour to the basement. As I descended the stairs, something once again grabbed my leg, mirroring the earlier incident. That was the final straw.”
“Whatever lurks within The Sallie House is malevolent, and I knew I had to leave. I noticed a drawing of Sallie in the kitchen – however, this portrayal was starkly different from the ghostly figure I encountered upstairs. She appeared disheveled, clad in a medical gown, distorted, and far from the image of a girl with a pretty bow in her hair.”
Brocarde had previously made headlines for her ‘marriage’ to the ghost of a Victorian soldier named Edwardo. She chronicled their tumultuous relationship, which culminated in an exorcism ‘divorce,’ and has since delved into paranormal investigations.
