An individual, identified as Grant Greening-Steer, aged 51, is facing accusations of exaggerating his physical limitations following a motorcycle accident in New Milton, Hampshire, back in June 2019. Greening-Steer sustained a spinal fracture and a moderate to severe traumatic brain injury when a car abruptly pulled out in front of his Yamaha motorbike near his residence. Nearly seven years later, he is pursuing a compensation claim amounting to approximately £5 million from the driver’s insurance company for various injuries that have reportedly hindered his ability to work, necessitating the use of a mobility scooter at times and causing difficulties with tasks like tying shoelaces and fastening buttons.

The defendant’s legal team alleges that covertly recorded surveillance footage contradicts Greening-Steer’s claims of ongoing disability, portraying him as walking normally. While acknowledging the seriousness of the initial accident and the resulting physical harm, the defense contends that Greening-Steer has embellished his symptoms to inflate the value of his claim. The plaintiff has requested damages totaling £4,924,418, though the defense argues that a more accurate assessment values his claim at £112,022, much lower than what is being sought. The defense further asserts that medical evidence and surveillance footage indicate an exaggeration of Greening-Steer’s physical limitations, with professionals suggesting he may be malingering to elevate the worth of his claim.

Greening-Steer’s version of events portrays a significant decline in his physical abilities post-accident, claiming the need for a mobility scooter for mobility, occasional use of walking aids, and struggles with basic tasks due to reduced dexterity and balance. His alleged limitations extend to challenges in daily activities, including issues with fatigue, cognitive function, and emotional regulation. Despite attempts to resume work after the accident, Greening-Steer asserts that his injuries have made it impossible to sustain employment in his previous role, citing persistent disabilities that impede his day-to-day life.

The ongoing legal battle involves contrasting perspectives on Greening-Steer’s actual physical capabilities post-accident, with the defense presenting evidence suggesting a more functional recovery than what the plaintiff claims. The trial remains ongoing, with potential implications for Greening-Steer’s compensation claim and legal costs should allegations of dishonesty be substantiated.
