A prominent BBC presenter is selling her deserted private island for an impressive £3 million. The property, located on Scotland’s famous Loch Lomond, is known for hosting a unique animal species rarely found in the UK.

TV and radio personality Kirsty Young acquired Inchconnachan island for £1.6 million in 2020 along with her spouse, Nick Jones, the founder of the upscale private members’ club Soho House. However, the couple has decided to put the island on the market after their initial plans for the tranquil location fell through.

Inchconnachan island, dubbed “Wallaby Island,” is home to a group of red-necked wallabies, the only wild population in Scotland. Previously owned by the aristocratic Colquhoun family, the island has been uninhabited for the past two decades, featuring a dilapidated cabin and lush woodlands where the wallabies roam free.

Lady Arran Colquhoun is believed to have relocated the wallabies from Hertfordshire to the Scottish island post-World War II, where they have thrived ever since. The couple’s vision for the 100-acre island included developing a short-term vacation residence, complete with a boathouse and jetty, along with employing conservation wardens to ensure the wallabies’ well-being.

Luxury real estate agency Sotheby’s has listed Inchconnachan island for sale, offering two purchasing options. The property can be acquired with planning permission for £3 million or as a fully developed investment for £10 million, which includes the construction of a lavish retreat that could take up to two years to complete.

The listing highlights the island’s exceptional seclusion, elevated viewpoints, and stunning shoreline views towards Ben Lomond. Nick Jones envisions the property as a haven for family getaways, golfing and fishing weekends, and quiet moments of contemplation.

Situated just a 10-minute boat ride from Loch Lomond Golf Club, the island provides a serene escape. Jones, who overcame prostate cancer, expressed that his health journey has prompted a shift in priorities, leading to the decision to downsize rather than expand his lifestyle.
