A man with two children has been imprisoned following a Facebook post that led to legal troubles. Nottingham Crown Court heard that Mason Jeffrey, 37, angrily posted a threatening message directed towards an ex-partner he had previously assaulted. He also sent a chilling message to one of her friends, indicating harm towards his ex-partner and her new significant other.

These actions resulted in a violation of a suspended sentence order, leading to a portion of it being activated, resulting in a jail term of up to a year. During sentencing, Judge Rosalind Coe KC emphasized the seriousness of breaching the restraining order and making threatening messages, despite any underlying reasons for the incident.

Prosecutor Georgina Miller detailed how Jeffrey, from Bilborough, had a history of violence towards the woman, leading to a previous suspended jail term for assault. Despite a restraining order preventing contact with the woman, Jeffrey updated his Facebook status with menacing language, prompting concerns from the victim and her friend.

Jeffrey admitted to breaching the suspended sentence and restraining order, with a history of multiple convictions for various offenses. In mitigation, his lawyer, Digby Johnson, highlighted Jeffrey’s positive actions in saving a family member’s life during a medical emergency. Johnson also mentioned Jeffrey’s current lack of stable accommodation as a contributing factor to the situation.

Jeffrey has been assured of housing support upon release from prison, with a relocation plan to Long Eaton. The defense emphasized Jeffrey’s reaction to perceived threats towards his children as a trigger point in the events leading to his imprisonment.
