Royal Mail initiates an inquiry following accusations that a postal worker admitted to discarding Reform UK campaign materials in a trash bin. The post in question, shared in a private Royal Mail Chat Facebook group, stated that the individual disregarded the delivery of the materials and was willing to face consequences.

A legal representative for Reform UK lodged a complaint with Royal Mail’s CEO, Alistair Cochrane, highlighting the seriousness of the situation. The representative pointed out the disrespectful nature of the post, which included acronyms like “DO” for delivery office, “D2D” for door-to-door mail, and “IDGAF” for a vulgar expression.

In response, Reform UK leader Nigel Farage emphasized the importance of Royal Mail’s investigation, labeling the incident as potentially detrimental to the democratic process. Royal Mail affirmed its commitment to fair election practices and stated that any intentional mishandling of mail is not tolerated.

Reform UK demanded a prompt and thorough internal investigation from Royal Mail, seeking a detailed explanation and potential compensation for the disruption caused. The legal representative stressed the gravity of the situation, highlighting the breach of Royal Mail’s obligations and the impact on Reform UK’s political campaign efforts.

The Facebook group in question is accessible to Royal Mail employees, partners, and members of the Communication Workers Union. It excludes current or former Royal Mail managers from participation.
