A mother of two described as “healthy” tragically passed away at the age of 32 following a liposuction procedure, leading to a police investigation into possible manslaughter.
Rebeca Llacho Cahuana, 32, underwent the surgery solo, commencing at approximately 5 pm on Friday, April 17, with an anticipated duration of four hours. However, concerns arose around 10 pm when a clinic staff member urgently contacted her sister with distressing news.
Jackie recounted to local media: “They informed me that my sister encountered complications during the procedure, but specifics were not provided.” Subsequently, Rebeca was swiftly transferred to a public hospital, where medical professionals confirmed her passing shortly after her arrival.
Before the incident in Cayma, Peru, she was reportedly in good health and had successfully cleared all pre-operative tests, as indicated by her sister, who has since lodged a formal complaint with the authorities.
The surgeon implicated, José David Molina Barreto, who is currently under suspicion for manslaughter, purportedly rented a room at the clinic to execute the procedure. Notably, he is said to lack registration as a plastic surgery specialist with the Peruvian Medical College.
Walther Oporto, the regional health manager, mentioned that the clinic was solely authorized for consultations and not equipped for surgical activities. Authorities have been unsuccessful in locating Molina thus far. Rebeca is survived by her two young children.
In a statement issued on Tuesday (April 21), Clínica Florez Salud stated: “We want to emphasize that our facility possesses all the requisite licenses, certifications, and paperwork for operation, fully complying with existing regulations.
“Furthermore, we confirm our proactive cooperation with the relevant authorities, maintaining transparency and making all essential documentation accessible to assist in clarifying the circumstances.”
