A Jet2 aircraft en route from Turkey to the UK faced an emergency situation while approaching Glasgow Airport earlier today. The Boeing 737 activated a ‘Squawk 7700’ distress signal over the North Sea, signaling a general emergency. At the time of the alert, the plane was cruising at approximately 36,000 feet.

The Jet2 flight received priority clearance for landing at Glasgow Airport after departing from Dalaman, Turkey, with a scheduled arrival time in Scotland at 4:35 pm UK time. Flight tracking data indicates that the aircraft briefly maintained altitude post-alert before commencing a descent upon receiving priority clearance from Air Traffic Control, according to AirLive reports.

The aircraft landed safely on runway 23 at 4:32 pm. The specific details of the incident remain undisclosed. This incident occurred following a warning from the CEO of Norse Atlantic Airways, Eivind Roald, who had to cancel flights from London Gatwick to Los Angeles due to a significant surge in jet fuel prices.

Numerous airlines globally have canceled flights amid ongoing tensions related to Iran’s control of the critical Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has continued to order the US Navy to enforce a blockade of Iranian ports.

In an interview with BBC Newsnight, Mr. Roald mentioned the anticipation of further flight cancellations across the industry. He emphasized that Norse Atlantic Airways intends to continue operations from London Gatwick, Athens, and Rome, without plans for additional cancellations from their side.

Following the cancellation of routes between London and Los Angeles, Norse Atlantic explained the decision as a response to the unforeseen global fuel crisis. The airline expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to affected passengers and assured them of assistance to the best of their ability to ensure a reliable service for summer travel.
