Prince Harry visited Bucha, Ukraine, where Russian forces left behind numerous landmines after a tragic incident. The Duke of Sussex journeyed through Ukraine, meeting with locals affected by the prolonged conflict and engaging with officials in Kyiv. During his visit to Bucha, where a massacre occurred in April 2022 as Russian troops withdrew, Harry witnessed the aftermath of the devastation caused by the abandoned landmines.

Following the departure of Russian soldiers, the city faced the challenge of dealing with hundreds of unexploded landmines, leading to a massive cleanup effort. Harry emphasized the long-term efforts needed for the cleanup, estimating it to extend for decades. Ukrainian forces had to innovate rapidly to develop new technologies to address the evolving threats of modern warfare, including using advanced tools like Robo dogs and AI-powered drones with remote controls and VR capabilities.

In discussions with ITV News, Harry commended the work of the Halo Trust, drawing parallels between his Ukraine visit and Princess Diana’s landmine activism in Angola. He highlighted the remarkable advancements in mine clearance technology by the Halo Trust, emphasizing the transition from manual labor to utilizing drones, AI, and robots for safer and more efficient operations.

Harry, who previously visited Angola to support landmine clearance efforts, reiterated his commitment to humanitarian causes by walking through landmine fields in Bucha wearing a protective vest. He urged for an end to the war, condemning the atrocities and systematic war crimes, particularly the distressing treatment of children in Ukraine. Harry’s advocacy for peace and humanitarian efforts echoed his mother’s legacy in promoting mine clearance and humanitarian causes.

During his time in Ukraine, Harry made a direct plea to Russian President Putin to halt the war, emphasizing the need to prevent further suffering for both Ukrainian and Russian populations. He condemned the documented war crimes and highlighted the deliberate targeting of civilians, emphasizing the urgent need to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
