A Lebanese family faced the threat of Israeli airstrikes as they journeyed to a new residence after being displaced due to the conflict with Iran. Samia, aged 24, had to leave her family’s home along with 17 relatives after their village was put on alert for potential bombing. Despite a ceasefire between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah, Samia expressed ongoing anxiety due to the presence of drones and the possibility of the truce collapsing.

The region has witnessed significant casualties, with 2,300 deaths in Lebanon compared to 23 in Israel since the conflict began. Recent Israeli bombings resulted in over 300 fatalities in Lebanon, marking the deadliest incident since the civil war over three decades ago. Lebanese authorities criticized Israel for targeting civilian areas, accusing them of violating international laws.

Samia’s family had been displaced once before in 2024 during previous conflicts. Their recent relocation led them to a cramped and inadequate living situation in the mountains, where they endured harsh conditions without proper amenities. The challenging journey and substandard living conditions took a toll on their mental well-being.

Despite a temporary ceasefire agreement, the family remains wary of the fragile peace and the continued presence of drones overhead. The lack of security and persistent fear continue to haunt them, emphasizing the need for genuine safety beyond just the cessation of bombings. The uncertainty looms large, with the possibility of displacement still a looming threat in their daily lives.
