The King has received a prestigious Blue Peter ‘Green’ badge in recognition of his outstanding efforts to protect the environment. The badge was presented to him by Blue Peter host Joel Mawhinney at Dumfries House in East Ayrshire on Earth Day. This special badge is awarded to individuals who demonstrate a strong commitment to environmental conservation, with notable past recipients including Sir David Attenborough and Prince William.

During the ceremony, the King, who previously received a gold version of the badge, placed another Blue Peter badge into a time capsule to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the King’s Foundation. The time capsule will be buried on the estate and remain there for 100 years before being unearthed by future generations.

At Dumfries House’s Pierburg Education Centre and Kauffman Education Garden, the King met with primary school students participating in the King’s Foundation Growing Together, Cooking Together program. He also interacted with students from Auchenharvie Academy in North Ayrshire, recognizing their efforts in promoting sustainability.

Joel expressed admiration for the King’s environmental initiatives and dedication to inspiring the next generation. The King’s longstanding support for reducing food waste through the Coronation Food Project, which distributes surplus food to those in need, was highlighted. Additionally, his appearance in the Amazon Prime documentary “Finding Harmony: A King’s Vision” emphasized his commitment to sustainability and working in harmony with nature.

Previously, the King and Queen were awarded Gold Blue Peter Badges for their contributions in environmental work and youth support. The King’s Trust, which focuses on empowering young individuals, was acknowledged for its positive impact. Furthermore, Camilla received a badge for her advocacy of literacy and early reading engagement.

The King is set to make a special appearance on an upcoming episode of Blue Peter scheduled to air on CBBC on May 1.
