The incident occurred while the cruise ship was docked in Funchal, Madeira, with reports indicating a fall from a height of 10 to 13 feet. The ship involved, Mein Schiff 7, part of the TUI fleet hosting around 3,000 passengers, is currently on a week-long journey originating from Gran Canaria.
According to reports from Dr. Nelio Mendonca Hospital, the child’s injuries are severe, and medical staff are working to save the child’s life. An internal inquiry has been initiated to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Local authorities, including the Red Cross and a rapid intervention medical team, responded promptly to the emergency.
Port officials in Funchal announced the arrival of two cruise ships, including Mein Schiff 7, carrying a significant number of passengers and crew members. The injured child was transferred to the hospital following the incident onboard the ship.
