A shocking incident unfolded as a driver under the influence of drugs sent his car somersaulting through the air during a high-speed police chase. The heart-stopping dashcam footage captured Ashley Parr, 35, in a white BMW 3 Series, launching off a roundabout after hitting it at 142mph. The car spun mid-air, landed on the other side of the road, flipped at least three times, before finally coming to a halt in a hedge.

The dramatic crash occurred following a dangerous 142 mph police pursuit prompted by a public alert about a reckless driver on Garrowby Hill, a road linking York and Driffield in East Yorkshire. Police identified the vehicle belonging to Parr from Leeds, about 40 miles away, and anticipated his route towards Leeds along the A64 westbound.

Traffic Constable Nick Simpson from North Yorkshire Constabulary strategically positioned himself at a busy interchange and spotted the BMW passing by. After observing the erratic driving, TC Simpson decided to intervene immediately to stop the vehicle. Pursuing Parr, he activated his blue lights at the A1036 junction. Despite briefly slowing down initially, the driver made a sudden move across lanes and continued towards junction 44 of the A1.

Ignoring commands to stop, the driver accelerated to speeds of 130mph on the A64 before merging onto the A1 southbound. Speeds surged to 140mph, leading to a dramatic crash at junction 42 of the A1(M), causing the vehicle to become airborne after failing to navigate a roundabout.

Subsequently, Parr, a resident of Guiseley, Leeds, faced charges of dangerous driving, drug driving, and drink driving, to which he admitted guilt. He was sentenced to 16 months in prison and a driving ban of three years and eight months at York Crown Court.

TC Simpson emphasized the extreme danger posed by such reckless driving, highlighting the potential risks to other road users and the driver. He reiterated the commitment to enhancing road safety in North Yorkshire and commended the public for reporting dangerous driving incidents, urging prompt action by dialing 999 in such situations.
