In a sudden turn, Trump backed down on his Iran conflict, agreeing to a ceasefire that postpones his own doomsday deadline by two weeks. He mentioned Iran’s “10-point plan,” previously dismissed by him as inadequate, which now seems to form the basis for negotiations.
Although Iran agreed to grant access to the Strait of Hormuz, it comes with the condition of their supervision, essentially granting them full control over this crucial aspect of the global economy.
The day unfolded with intense brinksmanship and uncertainty, culminating in Trump’s decision to halt the conflict for two weeks to allow for peace talks to progress.
Trump’s announcement on Truth Social acknowledged Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s request for a ceasefire and Iran’s opening of the Strait of Hormuz during this period. The ceasefire, Trump stated, was a mutual agreement to pave the way for long-term peace.
Following this, Israel also confirmed its compliance with the ceasefire, while Iran’s foreign minister declared a victory of sorts, stating that the US had accepted their proposal framework.
Trump expressed optimism about the ceasefire, emphasizing the potential for profit in rebuilding Iran and promoting peace in the region, heralding what he called a “big day for World Peace.”
