Police rushed to a park in a town in North Carolina following a violent altercation that turned into a mass shooting, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. The incident, which occurred at Leinbach Park in Winston-Salem, involved multiple young people and caused several injuries. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NC SBI) labeled it a “mass shooting” with two fatalities.
While the Winston-Salem police have not disclosed the exact number of victims, the NC SBI confirmed that “several people” sustained gunshot wounds. The NC SBI alerted the public about the shooting near Jefferson Middle School but clarified that it did not happen at the school but at Leinbach Park. The school continued its operations as usual, with authorities advising people to avoid the area temporarily.
Law enforcement officials have urged the public not to use personal drones to avoid disrupting ongoing emergency operations, as police drones are being deployed to locate individuals involved in the incident. Although some victims and suspects have been identified, efforts are ongoing to ensure everyone is safe. The Winston-Salem Police Department noted that some of those involved are minors.
