I Am Maximus emerged victorious in the 2026 Grand National, clocking a time of 9 minutes and 9.68 seconds. This win secured the second consecutive title for the horse owned by JP McManus, joining the ranks of two-time champions alongside Tiger Roll at this esteemed racing event.
The triumph also solidified McManus’s position as the most successful owner in the Grand National’s history, with four wins under his belt. Additionally, it marked the second back-to-back victory for trainer Willie Mullins, who led Nick Rockett to victory last year.
Reflecting on the achievement, jockey Paul Townend, who has now clinched a Gold Cup and Grand National double this season, praised I Am Maximus’s resilience, stating, “He’s a truly exceptional horse with an incredible engine that will give his all till the very end.”
Mullins commended the horse for its stellar performance, highlighting the decision to focus on Aintree instead of the Gold Cup route. He emphasized the evolving nature of the National race and its significance in the racing world.
