Sky has introduced new smart home plans in the UK featuring internet-connected cameras with cloud recordings starting at £5 per month. This offering competes with popular home security devices like Ring doorbells and Google’s Nest system. The plans include a Sky Smart Doorbell and Chime for £5 per month with a £15 upfront fee, providing features such as full HD video recording, instant alerts, customisable activity zones, two-way talk, and 30 days of cloud storage.
For those seeking additional security, the Smart Home Bundle with Smart Home Plan+ is available for £8 per month with a £20 upfront fee, adding an indoor camera and extra app functionalities like scheduled arming and automatic modes. Paul Sweeney, Managing Director of Sky Smart Home, emphasized the aim of making high-quality smart technology more accessible and user-friendly.
Previously, Sky primarily offered Protect Smart Home Insurance bundled with cameras and alarms. With the launch of these new plans, Sky’s home security devices can now be purchased as standalone services for the first time. In comparison, Amazon sells the Ring Doorbell with Chime for £119.99 with an additional cost for cloud recording access through a Ring Protect subscription starting at £4.99 per month.
