As we gear up for May half-term getaways and summer vacation planning, it’s crucial to stay informed about the latest airline regulations, especially regarding electronic devices. Many travelers are caught off guard at security checkpoints due to their gadgets, such as laptops, phones, and tablets. To avoid delays and issues at the airport, it’s wise to review your airline’s rules beforehand.

When flying with TUI, passengers are generally permitted to use electronic devices in flight mode, unless instructed otherwise by cabin crew. Larger items like laptops may need to be powered off during take-off and landing. Devices without a flight mode must be switched off throughout the flight. Power banks are allowed onboard but cannot be charged inflight or used to charge other devices. These power sources should not exceed 100Wh and must be stowed in a bag.

TUI emphasizes the importance of ensuring devices have sufficient battery power when passing through security. It’s recommended to have all electronic devices fully charged as part of enhanced security measures. Jet2 also requires electronic gadgets like tablets and laptops to be carried in hand luggage and operational for security screening.

For easyJet passengers, all devices must be in flight safe mode during taxi, take-off, inflight, and landing, and held securely. Specific items like laptops and large electronic games must be powered off during critical flight phases. The airline limits power banks to two per passenger, each not exceeding 100Wh without prior approval.

British Airways enforces restrictions on power bank devices, allowing two per person to be carried only in hand luggage. Passengers may need to demonstrate the battery rating, which can be calculated using a specific formula. Ryanair permits up to 15 personal electronic devices and up to 20 lithium batteries or power banks of up to 100Wh each. Smart bags with built-in batteries cannot be placed in checked baggage.

Travelers are advised to review the airlines’ rules on electronic items before departure to ensure a smooth travel experience.
