A Jet2 aircraft en route from the UK to Spain experienced an emergency situation when a baby became unwell during the flight. Upon receiving information about the infant’s breathing difficulties, air traffic controllers prioritized the landing of the flight. This incident occurred shortly after another Jet2 flight had to be diverted due to smoke in the cabin.
The emergency took place on Jet2 flight EXS2V traveling from London Stansted to Tenerife South. Spanish air traffic controllers were informed by the crew that they needed priority assistance for a baby with respiratory issues. The controllers coordinated medical aid on the ground, hoping for a swift recovery for the child.
The plane landed approximately nine minutes ahead of schedule at around 2:20 pm on the same day. It remains unclear whether the baby was taken to a hospital upon landing and what the current condition of the child is.
The previous incident involving a Jet2 flight from Bournemouth resulted in a ‘red code alert’ at Faro Airport, where emergency vehicles were deployed. The plane landed safely despite the diversion caused by smoke in the cabin. The flight, LS3643, departed from Bournemouth and was supposed to arrive in Gran Canaria but landed in Faro instead.
Jet2 clarified that the diversion to Faro was a precautionary measure after an odor was detected in the cabin. Passenger safety was not compromised, and the aircraft landed safely. A replacement aircraft will transport passengers from Faro to Gran Canaria, with apologies for the inconvenience caused.
