A tragic incident occurred at Olinda Via Park in Olinda, Brazil, where a seven-year-old boy named Bryan Henrique de Souza de Barros drowned in a swimming pool while his pregnant mother briefly stepped away to use the restroom. The boy was discovered unconscious in the pool and was rescued by a female visitor who administered first aid before a firefighter at the water park intervened.
Despite efforts to save him, Bryan was later pronounced dead at an urgent care unit. His family expressed that the pool seemed shallow but had areas exceeding 1.6m (5ft3in) deep without clear depth indicators or child access restrictions.
Authorities are investigating the incident, with Bryan’s great-uncle, police commissioner José da Silva, stating that the family is too distraught to comment at present. José emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into any negligence that may have contributed to the tragedy.
Bryan’s mother, Emilly, who is pregnant with her second child, was away when the incident occurred. José fondly remembered Bryan as a joyful and playful child who was deeply cherished by their close-knit family.
Following the incident, Olinda Via Park announced the indefinite suspension of its operations and pledged full cooperation with the authorities. The park is providing support to Bryan’s family during this difficult time.
Bryan was laid to rest at Santo Amaro Cemetery in Recife, sparking deep sorrow within his family. José vowed to seek answers through the investigative process to ensure accountability for the tragic loss.
