A strong earthquake measuring 7.4 magnitude has struck near the coasts of Mexico and Guatemala, prompting a tsunami warning. The epicenter, located off the coast of Puerto Madero in Chiapas, Mexico, has led authorities to advise residents within 300km of the area to prepare. Reports indicate that the earthquake was felt in Guatemala, prompting evacuations in Guatemala City.

The earthquake, which occurred at a depth of 10km, has raised concerns about potential hazardous tsunami waves along the coast. The epicenter is situated 71km west-southwest of Puerto Madero, in an area where the Caribbean, North American, Pacific, Rivera, and Cocos tectonic plates converge. The complex interaction between these plates poses a high risk of seismic activity in the region.
