A 14-year-old teenager has been accused of involvement in “extreme right-wing terrorism” for allegedly planning to attack two mosques in south London, according to authorities.

The Metropolitan Police detained the boy initially on suspicion of damaging a vehicle on July 9 in a south London location. Subsequently, during a search at the residence, law enforcement officers discovered several concerning documents.

The teenager was then arrested on suspicion of violating section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006, specifically for preparing terrorist activities related to extreme right-wing terrorism, as confirmed by the Metropolitan Police.

After further investigations and collaboration with the Crown Prosecution Service, the boy has been charged with two offenses. These charges include preparing for terrorist acts before July 9 and racially aggravated property damage by allegedly breaking a car window before June 20, with the police contacting the vehicle’s owner.

The terrorism charge is connected to an alleged scheme to target two mosques in the Sutton area, with specialized officers providing support for both locations, as stated by the police.

The boy has been kept in custody and is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Authorities have reassured the public that there is no broader threat related to this incident, and they are not actively seeking other individuals in connection with the investigation.

Commander Helen Flanagan, Head of CTP London, expressed the serious nature of the terrorism charge against the young boy, emphasizing the potential impact on the public and the local community, especially the Muslim community.

Officials are working closely with the affected venues to ensure ongoing communication, support, and reassurance for all involved parties.

Detective Chief Superintendent Nick Blackburn, overseeing local policing in south London, acknowledged the concerns of the local Muslim community and emphasized collaboration with partners to offer support and reassurance.

Increased patrols will be implemented in the affected areas in the following days, with continuous monitoring, according to DCS Blackburn.

Commander Flanagan highlighted the rise in children and young individuals involved in such cases, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts across various sectors to prevent youth from engaging in extremist ideologies and criminal behavior.

Authorities urge vigilance and prompt action if there are suspicions of radicalization in young people, recommending contacting ACT Early for support and intervention to prevent harm or criminal involvement.

For concerns about individuals, access the ACT Early website or call the Act Early Support Line for confidential assistance from trained officers.
