Woman in Critical Condition After Clothes Catch Fire on Edinburgh Street

A woman is currently hospitalized in critical condition after her clothes caught fire on a bustling street in Edinburgh. The incident took place at Bowmont Place in St Leonards around 12.10pm on Monday, prompting emergency services to respond swiftly.

Witnesses, including Royal Mail workers, rushed to aid the woman as she struggled to extinguish the flames engulfing her lower body. Disturbing footage, not released due to its distressing nature, shows the frantic efforts to help her. Subsequently, firefighters arrived to put out the fire, leaving the scene in the hands of the police.

Although the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, authorities have ruled out any suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident. Police Scotland confirmed the woman’s critical condition and ongoing investigations into the matter.

Additionally, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service reported responding to the fire at Carnegie Court Corner on Bowmont Place, dispatching two units to swiftly contain and extinguish the blaze.

As investigations continue, the community remains shocked by the distressing event, hoping for the woman’s swift recovery.
