Serena and Venus Williams have been granted a wild card entry to compete together in the doubles event at the upcoming U.S. Open tournament. This marks a return to the court for Serena after a four-year hiatus, with the duo previously having to withdraw from Wimbledon due to Serena’s knee injury. Despite a recent early exit at the Cincinnati Open, the Williams sisters boast an impressive record at the U.S. Open, having clinched the doubles title in 1999 and 2009 and maintaining a 27-7 win-loss ratio over nine appearances.

Both Serena, aged 44, and Venus, aged 46, have had notable performances in various events. Serena recently partnered with Carlos Alcaraz in mixed doubles, advancing to the quarterfinals after securing a victory. Venus, on the other hand, is set to compete in the women’s singles competition. The Williams sisters have a decorated history in doubles play, having claimed 14 Grand Slam titles and multiple Olympic gold medals. Their success culminated in a shared top ranking in women’s doubles for eight weeks.

While Serena will not be participating in the singles competition where she has achieved six Grand Slam titles, she has decided to enter both doubles events at the U.S. Open. Their partnership has been a formidable force on the court, with their dominance highlighted by victories at major tournaments such as the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the French Open. The first round of the women’s doubles event is scheduled to commence on September 3.
