The White House went into lockdown following a shooting incident near the Washington Monument. Law enforcement officers identified a suspicious individual who then exchanged gunfire with Secret Service officers and was subsequently shot.

This shooting incident occurred shortly after JD Vance passed through the area, as reported by Deputy Director Mathew C Quinn. The Secret Service confirmed that the incident involved an armed individual confronting Secret Service Police at 15th Street and Independence Avenue in Washington, D.C.

During the altercation, a young individual was injured but was promptly transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The shooting incident occurred approximately a mile away from the White House across the National Mall.

As a precautionary measure, the White House was evacuated briefly before authorities issued an ‘all clear’ signal. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) of Washington, DC, stated that an investigation is currently underway at the scene on 15th Street and Independence Ave, SW.

MPD advised the public to avoid the area as road closures were expected for several hours. The department assured that further updates would be provided as the investigation progressed. This incident happened just over a week after Cole Tomas Allen allegedly attempted to breach security at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner attended by former President Trump, resulting in charges of attempted murder and firearm offenses against Allen.
