A US politician, Kirill Basin, was captured on video in his underwear causing a disturbance at Keawakapu Beach in South Kihei, Hawaii. The incident unfolded when Basin was approached by fellow beach attendees to lower his music volume, leading him to become agitated and confrontational. During the altercation, Basin engaged in a physical altercation with a beachgoer, resulting in him being knocked unconscious after attempting to strike the individual with a beach chair.
Upon regaining consciousness, Basin was warned by the other person to watch his language and behavior. Despite the warning, Basin continued to escalate the situation by challenging the individual and making threats. Witnesses reported that Basin brandished a knife and claimed to possess a gun, which he allegedly discarded into the ocean. The knife was later recovered by law enforcement.
Following the incident, Basin was the only individual arrested and has been charged with two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening. Bail has been set at $1 million. Basin is slated to compete against Republican Jill Tokuda for Hawaii’s second congressional district on August 8, although his remand status for the upcoming election remains uncertain. This is not the first legal issue involving Basin, as he previously faced charges for threatening Maui County workers with a gun in a government building in Wailuku.
Basin’s social media posts prior to his arrest hinted at his ongoing legal troubles, including claims of police mistreatment. In an Instagram post, Basin alleged being tortured by law enforcement officers, emphasizing his intent to pursue legal action to prevent similar incidents in the future.
