The United States has conducted airstrikes on Iran in response to a drone attack on a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz. The US military targeted Iranian missile and drone storage facilities as well as coastal radar sites, according to US Central Command (CENTCOM).

CENTCOM described the airstrikes as a forceful retaliation against the “attack” on a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz that occurred on Thursday. The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) center reported that a cargo ship was hit by an “unknown projectile” 7.5 nautical miles southeast of Oman’s port of Dahit. Fortunately, there were no casualties.

The US military stated that Iran used a one-way attack drone to target the Singapore-flagged M/V Ever Lovely. CENTCOM condemned Iran’s actions as an unjustified act of aggression that violated the ceasefire and jeopardized freedom of navigation in the important international trade route.

The airstrikes were carried out shortly after President Trump hinted at a response to the drone attack, stating, “You’ll find out.” In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that it repelled a US attack on Sirik Island and warned of a swift and decisive response at a time and place of their choosing.

Iranian state television reported that two missiles struck a telecommunications tower in the Sirik area near the Strait of Hormuz.
