A widely-used portable cot has been urgently taken off the market, with a strong caution to parents about the potential ‘risk of serious harm or fatality’.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) issued a recall for the 5-in-1 nursery center portable cot, which serves as a bassinet, bed, sleeper, baby crib, activity center, and changing table. This product, currently available for purchase on Amazon and Costway Wholesale, poses a danger of entrapment and suffocation, creating a serious threat of injury or death if an infant is placed inside it.
The ACCC has declared that “This item does not meet the required safety standard for infant sleep products. There is a risk of serious harm or death due to entrapment or suffocation. An incident has already occurred.”
Parents are advised to verify the model number or SKU on their products to check if it matches SKU: BB0505. If you have bought a portacot with the mentioned SKU number, it is recommended to discontinue its use immediately. You can then return it to the original point of purchase to arrange for a free replacement.
In a related development, a baby snowsuit has also been withdrawn from shelves due to a hazardous fault. The quilted snowsuits, available in pink florals and cream bears, were sold nationally both online and in-store at Best and Less from April 16 to June 11.
These snowsuits have been recalled due to a flaw in the snap fasteners, which can come off during use. Children are at risk of serious injury or death from choking if the snap fastener detaches from the snowsuit and is ingested.
The following SKUs have been recalled: 1922326, 1922327, 1922328, 1922329, 1922330, 1922331, 1922334, 1922335, 1922336, 1922337, 1922338, and 1922339.
Consumers are advised to immediately discontinue using the snowsuits and ensure they are kept well out of children’s reach. Affected customers can return the snowsuits to any Best and Less store for a full refund.
