A 21-year-old individual has been taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder following an incident where a man was allegedly shot with a crossbow at the University of Surrey.
The victim was assaulted at Manor Park Student Village in Guildford at approximately 10 am today, as confirmed by the police. The victim, a man in his 50s, is presently hospitalized and in a critical state.
The suspect, identified as a former student of the university, is currently under arrest. There is a significant presence of emergency services at the location.
Chief Superintendent Jon Groenen stated, “I understand that this event may raise concerns within our local communities, but I want to assure everyone that there is no ongoing search for additional suspects in connection with this incident. Our collaboration with the university is ongoing as our investigation advances.”
“The apprehension of the suspect occurred promptly after the incident, and an inquiry is now in progress to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack,” added Groenen.
“The victim remains in serious condition at the hospital, and his family has been informed and is receiving support from the authorities.”
A spokesperson from the University of Surrey mentioned, “At around 9:50 am this morning, an incident occurred at our Manor Park campus. Law enforcement responded, and an individual was apprehended.”
“A member of our campus safety team sustained severe injuries and is receiving medical attention. Authorities have confirmed that there is no search for additional suspects in relation to this incident.”
