Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urgently called for the deployment of ballistic missile interceptors following a recent intense Russian assault on Kyiv, resulting in the deaths of at least nine individuals. The onslaught, which included ballistic missiles and drones, inflicted injuries on 33 people, as confirmed by authorities. This attack came on the heels of a previous strike by Moscow that claimed the lives of at least 10 individuals and left over 50 others wounded throughout Ukraine.

In response to the escalating violence, President Zelensky emphasized the critical necessity for ballistic missile interceptors, underscoring that every night without these defensive systems leads to more casualties. The Russian defense ministry announced a significant strike targeting Ukrainian military-industrial complexes and logistical centers in Kyiv.

The repercussions of the attacks were felt in various districts of Kyiv, with a five-story residential building in the Solomianskyi District sustaining damage from falling debris, resulting in a fire. The emergency services managed to evacuate 35 individuals from the building, but tragically, two people lost their lives, and eight others, including two children, were reported injured.

In another part of Kyiv, in the Darnytskyi District, seven individuals perished, and 14 others were wounded due to fires and structural damage caused by the assault on houses, vehicles, and buildings. Additionally, emergency responders extinguished a fire in a non-residential building in the Shevchenkivskyi district, with reports of damage to commercial and residential structures in two other city districts.

President Zelensky has urged the United States and Western allies to provide Ukraine with additional Patriot anti-ballistic missile defense systems to counter Russia’s missile attacks effectively. Stressing the immediate need for these interceptors to halt the loss of lives, Zelensky emphasized that each package of ballistic missile interceptors plays a crucial role in safeguarding the Ukrainian population from harm.

Despite initial commitments made at a recent NATO summit regarding the provision of Patriot systems to Ukraine, there have been indications of a potential delay in final decisions, as mentioned by former U.S. President Donald Trump during a recent Cabinet meeting. The situation remains dire for residents like Liudmyla Nakonechna, who described the harrowing experience of surviving multiple attacks in her city, highlighting the increasing frequency and psychological toll of the assaults.

In a separate incident, in Russian-occupied Crimea, a drone attack in Sevastopol resulted in the death of a 60-year-old woman and injuries to two others. Meanwhile, a sanctioned Russian vessel, the Yanina, sank in the Black Sea after being targeted by Ukraine for its role in supporting the ongoing conflict. Additionally, a Russian airstrike in Kherson claimed one life and left five individuals wounded, according to local officials.
