A popular chain of pubs in the UK has revealed plans to shut down all 106 of its locations in the upcoming weeks. Beefeater, renowned for its aged steaks and assorted grills, has officially announced its permanent exit from the pub-restaurant sector on September 10.
The closures are part of a significant restructuring initiative by Whitbread, the owner, aimed at saving £250 million. This strategy includes the closure of all remaining Beefeater and Brewers Fayre establishments, putting approximately 3,800 jobs in jeopardy.
Customers were informed of the closures through a letter sent to members of the Beefeater reward club, as reported by the Southend Echo. The communication stated, “As you may have heard, we have made recent changes to our operations, leading to the closure of our Branded Restaurants. Therefore, on Thursday, September 10, 2026, your local Beefeater and all other Beefeater locations in the UK will cease operations.”
In April, Whitbread’s CEO, Dominic Paul, cited significant cost escalations as the driving force behind the company’s restructuring. A company spokesperson mentioned that they anticipate retaining a substantial portion of the affected workforce and will explore options to redeploy as many impacted employees as feasible, according to The Sun.
Closure dates for Brewers Fayre and Bar + Block establishments are still pending confirmation.
