Petrol prices in the UK are on the rise as concerns about the ongoing Iran conflict triggering a surge in fuel costs persist. A newly launched interactive map now provides detailed insights into average prices per region and pinpoints the most cost-effective places for refueling in your vicinity.

The price of crude oil surpassed $100 per barrel today amidst continued US and Israeli military actions in Iran, causing global market jitters. With the conflict entering its ninth day, the average petrol price at UK pumps has climbed to 137p per litre, marking a nearly 6p increase since the turmoil commenced.

Analysts caution that if crude oil prices remain elevated, British drivers can anticipate further cost escalations. The Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit highlights the historical correlation between oil and fuel prices, indicating that sustained trading at $100 per barrel could push petrol prices to around 150p per litre, while hitting $120 per barrel would potentially drive UK petrol prices to approximately 170p per litre.

Across the UK, petrol prices exhibit significant disparities depending on the refueling location. Notably, in Northern Ireland, prices are notably lower than the national average, with Belfast forecourt rates averaging 125.8p per litre for standard unleaded petrol.

Areas such as North Warwickshire, Maidstone, Breckland, and Brentwood rank among the priciest regions for refueling, where average petrol prices exceed 141p per litre. However, within each of these locales, there are more cost-effective filling stations offering prices more aligned with the national average.

For the most economical refueling option in the United Kingdom, drivers can head to an ASDA garage in County Durham. This outlet, situated on South Church Road, charges motorists 127.7p per litre, translating to a £70 cost for filling an average 55-litre tank, potentially saving drivers up to £24 compared to the dearest petrol station.

Conversely, the highest-priced filling station in the UK is an ASDA outlet on the M74 Southbound, South Lanarkshire, where standard petrol is priced at 171.9p per litre, necessitating a total outlay of £95 to refuel an average family car.

Diesel prices have outpaced unleaded petrol, with an approximate 9p per litre increase since the Iran conflict onset on February 28. Notably, the most budget-friendly spot for diesel refueling, as per retailer data, is an ASDA garage in Kingswood, Hull, offering standard diesel at 134.9p per litre.

The prices referenced are based on data provided by retailers as of March 9, 2026, at 4:45 am.
