The UAE is said to have conducted covert military operations against Iran, potentially escalating the regional conflict. Utilizing Western-manufactured fighter jets and advanced surveillance technology, the UAE allegedly targeted an oil refinery on Iran’s Lavan Island.
Accusations have been made by the UAE against Iran for launching missiles and drones towards key locations such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Fujairah. Recent incidents include an Iranian strike causing a significant fire at Fujairah’s major port and oil storage facility on May 4.
Multiple incidents in March and April saw the UAE intercepting ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones aimed at its territories. Attacks in mid-March also affected Fujairah and Dubai’s international airport, leading to temporary flight suspensions due to drone-related incidents.
Reports from the Wall Street Journal reveal that on April 8, the UAE carried out a clandestine strike on Iran’s Lavan Island refinery, resulting in considerable damage. Iran categorized this event as an “enemy attack” with no reported casualties.
Following this, Iran retaliated by launching missiles and drones towards the UAE and Kuwait. Iranian state media reported these attacks as a response to the targeting of the Lavan Island oil facilities in Iran.
Since the conflict began on February 28, Iranian attacks on the UAE have resulted in the deaths of at least 10 individuals and injuries to over 230 people. Among the casualties are citizens from various countries, including Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Palestine, India, Egypt, and a Moroccan national serving in the UAE armed forces.
