A bus with passengers onboard has crashed into a major river in France due to an error made by a trainee driver. The incident occurred this morning at around 8:30 am UK time when the bus collided with a parked car, causing both vehicles to end up in the River Seine. There were four individuals on the bus at the time, including the driver, an instructor, and two passengers. Fortunately, no one was inside the parked car.
The mishap took place near the Quai Jean-Pierre Timbaud along the Seine, as reported locally. Emergency divers swiftly responded to the scene and successfully rescued all four passengers from the sinking bus.
Images captured the bus submerged underwater, with a dark blue car floating nearby. Divers thoroughly searched the bus and confirmed that no one was trapped inside.
The mayor of Juvisy, Lamia Bensarsa Reda, expressed shock over the accident, describing it as the “worst day” of her life. She commended the swift actions of the police and emergency services, which prevented any casualties.
Mayor Reda also mentioned that municipal police officers were present to manage the heavy traffic flow around the Seine riverbanks. Additionally, a press release stated that Île-de-France Mobilités has initiated an internal investigation to promptly determine the causes of the accident.
