Multiple casualties have been reported following a collision between two trains near Kagerup in North Zealand, Denmark this morning. The incident occurred before 6:30 am local time north of Copenhagen, injuring up to 17 individuals, with four of them in critical condition.
The crash occurred on a train line connecting Hillerod and Kagerup, leading to the dispatch of seven ambulances, a helicopter, and the armed forces to the scene. Gribskov Mayor Trine Egetved mentioned on Facebook that some of the injured were airlifted to the hospital.
As a result of the morning’s crash, the Gribskov Line has been temporarily suspended. Alternative bus services are available from Hillerød to Tisvildeleje and Hillerød to Kagerup, where trains typically run towards Gilleleje and Helsingør.
Authorities in North Zealand confirmed the injuries but refrained from specifying their nature and extent. Technical investigations are ongoing at the site, with a prolonged examination expected, according to the police district.
The mayor of Gribskov municipality, Trine Egetved, expressed deep concern on Facebook for all those affected, highlighting the significant use of the local railway by Gribskov residents, workers, and students. Reports indicate that seven ambulances and a helicopter were deployed to the accident site north of Copenhagen.
Armed forces have also been mobilized to the scene. Current reports suggest that four individuals are critically injured, with a total of 17 casualties resulting from the train collision in Denmark. The number of injured individuals was initially estimated between five and ten, as per public broadcaster DR quoting police sources.
