A significant search effort in South Carolina for a young girl has tragically shifted to a homicide investigation following the arrest of her parents. Javeayah Harris, a four-year-old, was initially reported as missing, prompting a widespread search involving various agencies and resources such as helicopters, drones, police canines, and numerous officers.

Authorities in Aiken County now suspect that the child had passed away approximately a month before the missing report. The focus of the investigation has transitioned from a search and rescue mission to a criminal inquiry, although her body has not been located.

Johmarea Harris, aged 23, faces charges of homicide by child abuse, while Michilae Herring, aged 22, is charged with homicide by child abuse and making a false police report. Both parents are in custody while law enforcement continues to search for their daughter’s remains.

Evidence discovered during the investigation has led detectives to believe that Javeayah was deceased before the emergency call reporting her disappearance was made on June 30. Aiken County Sheriff Marty Sawyer Jr. expressed regret, stating that it was too late to save her by the time the 911 call was received.

Authorities are actively searching for the child’s body beyond Aiken County, and court documents reveal that the parents confessed to the child’s death, although her whereabouts remain unknown. Additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation progresses.

Local residents have expressed grief by leaving flowers, teddy bears, and balloons outside the family’s residence to honor Javeayah. Volunteers from the community banded together to search for the little girl when she went missing, with one resident noting, “She captured our hearts.”

Described as a cheerful and chatty child who adored Minnie Mouse and chasing chickens, Javeayah had endeared herself to many in the community. Sheriff Sawyer extended gratitude to all involved in the search efforts and offered condolences to Javeayah’s extended family, affirming the commitment to continue searching until she is found.

He emphasized, “Our quest to find Javeayah persists. Bringing her home remains of utmost importance.”
