Eight children were tragically killed in shootings at two residences in Louisiana, as confirmed by local authorities. The Shreveport Police Department disclosed that the victims, ranging from 18 months to 14 years old, lost their lives in the Cedar Grove neighborhood following a disturbance within a family. The incident occurred at approximately 6 a.m. on Sunday CDT (12 p.m. BST), as stated by Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith.
The perpetrator, identified as an adult male, was fatally shot by law enforcement officers during a pursuit in Bossier Parish, as reported by the Louisiana State Police.
Chief Smith mentioned that a total of 10 individuals were shot by the assailant. Two women sustained head injuries from gunshot wounds, according to local TV station KTBS. Additionally, a young boy incurred injuries after leaping from a roof.
The initial shooting transpired inside a residence on West 79th Street near Linwood Avenue in Shreveport. By 10:30 a.m. CDT (4:30 p.m. BST), around 30 police units were still present at the scene.
Authorities revealed that there are two other related shooting locations: one around a quarter mile away on Harrison Street in Monroe, and another on Brompton Lane in Bossier Parish. It remains unclear if any fatalities occurred at the Bossier Parish site or if it was where the perpetrator was ultimately shot.
Officials indicated that they are in the process of gathering information about the crime scenes. Chief Smith described the scene as extensive, unlike anything most individuals have experienced before.
