A tragic incident unfolded in the Canary Islands as a man in his 60s lost his life due to a propeller accident on a pleasure boat last Sunday. The Spanish man was fatally injured when he got caught between the propeller blades while out fishing with his friend, who witnessed the horrifying event. It took rescue teams several hours to extricate the man’s body.
Following the rescue operation, paramedics tended to the skipper, who experienced an anxiety attack after the distressing incident. The duo, long-time fishing partners from Puntagorda, had ventured out to the waters off La Palma’s west coast for their routine fishing excursion.
The tragic event occurred in a secluded area between Porís de Tijarafe and El Puerto de Puntagorda, known for its fishing activities accessible only by boat due to the coastal cliffs. The Civil Guard, along with firefighters from the La Laguna park, commenced an investigation, and the recreational boat involved in the accident was towed to the Port of Tazacorte for further examination.
The mayor of Puntagorda, Vicente Rodríguez Lorenzo, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as a devastating loss involving two close friends. The community is mourning the untimely death of the man in this unfortunate boating mishap.
